What is the inspiration behind your piece?: Similar to Alice's experience in the flower garden, I had a whimsical and inspirational experience surrounded by a large field of sunflowers. I was on the way home from my friend's celebration of life when I stopped at a roadside farm to talk with the flowers. The weather was stormy that day and the bright yellow of the sunflowers contrasted nicely with the moody sky. I took some photos which I then knew I wanted to re-create in mixed media.

What is the inspiration behind your piece?: The mad hatter has always been my favorite character from the novel. I imagined him in a state of melancholy. I believe his emotions are something many people can relate too. To balance out his obvious sadness, I added bright and happy colors.

What is the inspiration behind your piece?: The fifth in a personal series focused on positive and whimsical depictions of Black and Brown women that I didn't see growing up. This one is made of colored pencils on hot-pressed watercolor paper. Inspired by the plants in my grandmother's garden, I tried to keep the focus and most of the color in the pieces on the florals and on her curly hair.
