It's about transitioning from one life to another. I used my favorite old and retired pair of high heels and gave them a new look, combat boots, and an antique table and mirror to create the piece. The mud is made from spray foam. I painted it and added sand to give it depth and texture.

What is the inspiration behind your piece?
This piece is inspired by this year's Applaud the Arts theme - Through the Looking Glass. It's about my transition from the military to civilian life. I have found that for many, it can be a hard and heavy transition... Bringing all kinds of emotional baggage, good and not so good, and many different forms of PTSD. It represents my struggle to find a healthy mental balance, going from a place of darkness to light. By examing the past, I can now love myself and my future.
